We are LITdrive: Our team consists of five Master students majoring in the fields of Bioinformatics or Computer Science. We are part of the self-driving students group at the Johannes Kepler University Linz and the Linz Institute of Technology (LIT), an interdisciplinary team of more than 15 students which share their passion for autonomous driving. This whole group will work together to support us in this challenge. We all are eager about contributing to ongoing research in robotics and especially machine learning for autonomous driving. Our students group is embedded into special topics courses at our university and brings together knowledge from Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Vision and Computer Science. Thankfully, we do have the great opportunity to be supported by the Institute of Bioinformatics, which has a strong research focus in Deep Learning and its applications for self-driving cars1. The current working topics span from Deep CNN for semantic segmentation of images2 over unsupervised learning with Generative Adversarial Networks (GAN) to intention modelling for pedestrians, cyclists and cars with LSTM, just to name a few.
The chair of the institute is held by Prof. Sepp Hochreiter, the inventor of LSTM and one of the fathers of Deep Learning. He is the head of the LIT-AI Lab as well. LIT-AI Lab is a newly founded lab focused on Deep Learning research and other AI approaches. The primary supervisor of our group is DI Dr. Bernhard Nessler. He is in charge of the Audi.JKU Deep Learning center, a research project with Audi for Deep Learning in traffic scene perception. We are looking forward to contributing towards the future of autonomous driving at the AADC and beyond.
